Outlook (Thursday-Sunday)

A positively tilted trough extends from the Great Lakes to the Southern Rockies, and it is progressing eastward at a fairly good clip this afternoon.  Behind it, a strong upper storm is located near Northwest Montana.  While there are some differences in 12z model data, in general, the lead trough will be moving over New England with the upper storm diving southeastward near Yellowstone by late on Thursday.  The storm will be moving across the Plains early on Friday, and New England on Saturday.  Another system will be moving across the Northern Plains late on Saturday and early Sunday.  This parade of storm systems will help keep the half hearted attempts at building a ridge over the Western U.S. in check.

A cold front over Southeast Oklahoma this evening will have cleared the state by Thursday morning.  There will continue to be a risk for showers and thunderstorms over Southeast Oklahoma through Friday morning.  Meanwhile, a reinforcing surge of cool air will enter the state during the early morning hours of Friday.  There will be a chance of showers over much of southern and western sections of the state on Friday.

The cooler than normal air will remain over the state into Saturday as a surface ridge will be over Oklahoma.  Pressures will begin to fall over the state on Sunday as the ridge moves east, and an increase of moisture may lead to a few showers and thunderstorms / especially over Western Oklahoma / late in the day.
