Outlook (Thursday-Sunday)

An upper system passed across Oklahoma on Wednesday, this will be moving toward the Southeast U.S. while an upper ridge builds across the Central and Southern Plains on Thursday.  Meanwhile, the next system to affect the state is moving across the west coast.

The western system will quickly move southeastward toward Colorado and New Mexico by early Saturday.  From there, it will drop southward while closing off and becoming detached from westerly flow across the northern half of the country.

Winds will be southerly across the state on Friday.  By early Saturday, a surface low will organize over Southwest Texas, and this will allow for a cold front to drop south across the High Plains and much of Northwest Oklahoma.  The front will push across the remainder of the state during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday.  By Sunday, a weak surface high will drop south of Oklahoma with low level flow increasing out of the southwest.

Lifting associated with the approaching system will result in widespread light precipitation forming over the Panhandle early on Saturday – spreading east and southeastward and ending late in the evening.  Forecast soundings suggest rain as the primary precipitation type, but some mixed snow is possible once again across the northern half of the state.
